Salt Lake City's Trusted Pergola Specialist

TWO DECADES OF SHADE
IN SALT LAKE CITY.

Peak Pergolas has been installing pergolas and pergolas across the Salt Lake Valley since 2006. From compact awnings in the Avenues to full motorized louvered pergolas in Holladay, we know the soil, the snow loads, and what holds up to a Salt Lake winter.

SLC backyards face a real shade problem — summer afternoons hit 95°F, winter snow loads stack up, and the inversion doesn't help. The right shade structure makes the difference between a backyard you use 4 months a year and one you use 9.

Salt Lake City-Specific

WHAT MAKES BUILDING IN SALT LAKE CITY DIFFERENT.

  • 01
    Wasatch snow load
30 psf valley floor, more on the bench. Every structure we install is engineered for local snow load — no shortcuts.
  • 02
    Bench wind exposure
East-bench properties (Cottonwood Heights, Federal Heights) get canyon winds. We use heavier framing and reinforced anchors there.
  • 03
    SLC stormwater rules
New impervious cover (patio covers) can trigger stormwater review. We handle the permit.
  • 04
    Historic district overlays
Avenues and Capitol Hill require Historic Landmark Commission review on visible exterior work. We prep the package.

Salt Lake City Shade FAQ

SALT LAKE CITY SHADE QUESTIONS.

How long does a pergola install take in SLC?

Aluminum pergolas: 3-6 days. Wood pergolas: 5-10 days. Motorized louvered: 5-10 days install plus 6-10 week lead time on materials.

Do I need a permit for a pergola?

Attached pergolas (connected to the house) typically yes. Freestanding ones over a certain size, yes. We pull permits.

Will it survive Salt Lake winters?

If engineered for snow load, yes. We don't install anything we wouldn't engineer.

Can pergolas attach to historic homes in the Avenues?

Yes — we work with the Historic Landmark Commission on the design. Wood pergolas often approve more easily than aluminum.

How early should I book for a spring SLC install?

Spring (April-June) books out by late February. Motorized louvered systems need to be ordered earlier (6-10 week material lead time).

What's the most popular SLC install?

Aluminum pergolas with manual louvers. About 40% of our SLC residential installs.
